Ecuador
Overview
Women in Geothermal Ecuador (WING-Ec) and Ecuadorian Geothermal Association (AGE) are parallel associations that, at the moment, are growing together. WING-Ec was created first- in July 2020 and afterwards, it gave rise to AGE in January 2021. The role of WING-Ec was crucial because; it gathered geothermal advocates all over the country and gave us motivation to create a national representation as an official voice. -How can we promote women in geothermal in Ecuador if Ecuador itself is not promoting geothermal in the first place?- In this sense, We created AGE but having the principles of WING as reference, this means that AGE promotes gender equality in geothermal energy as one of their commitments.
Currently, the members of both associations WING-Ec and AGE are the same. We acknowledge the diversity of disciplines that geothermal energy comprises and based on that we have members of multiple disciplines and profiles: electrical engineers, petroleum engineers, geologists, environmentalists, financial analysts and social specialists. Our profiles belong to different sectors; public, private and academia and our motivation is the integration of our skills and experience.
Our job has focuses on creating interest and spreading information trough social media, podcast, webinars and events that allow geothermal and gender equality to be seen by all the public
We firmly believe that an Ecuador with geothermal energy where women can participate free of barriers, is an achievable dream!! We will not stop until we reach it.
27 members; 11 women and 16 men. We know that women are a minority but we are looking for more female participation through the podcast. We have weekly meetings on Thursdays from 7 to 8 pm Ec time.
