Overview
New Zealand was one of the founding members of WING in October 2013, and we were the global WING team until passing the baton to the US team in 2020. Our focus has always been the development and impact of this organisation within the geothermal world, and we are pleased to say that our global community has made much progress through the years. WING NZ is now focused on our own impact here in Aotearoa. Our chapter is 411 members strong, and our members span the industry, academia, the community, the government and more. We aim to provide our members with networking and volunteering opportunities, as well as bettering the industry by proposing equitable policies and recruitment practices. We are keenly looking for others who want to help us make an impact, especially WINGmen.
This year we have many new initiatives and events to further impact our industry for the better. Contact us at newzealand@womeningeothermal.org if you’d like to get involved or have any ideas!
WING NZ 2022 Goals:
–50% female/male membership (currently 59% female / 41% male)
–Improve recruitment practices at geothermal companies to improve diversity and inclusion
–Begin corporate discussions around more equal parental leave for primary and secondary carers
–Increase member engagement by launching a virtual event series and enabling meaningful discussions
–Link the wider New Zealand geothermal community in one strong network
–Provide resources for those experiencing gender discrimination
WING NZ is actively pursuing these goals through involvement with the WINGmen taskforce, social media outreach, workshop and conference attendance, hosting industry events, community involvement and more.
