Overview

The US WING chapter was one of the first formed after the founding of the WING global organization in October 2013 at the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. The WING US Country Team is composed of representatives from industry, academia, and government and includes WINGmen. Some of the current goals and activities of the chapter are focused around the Geothermal Resources Council (US based industry organization) and include:

  • 50% women on the GRC Board
  • 50% women on panel discussions put on by GRC
  • 50% women as session chairs
  • 50% awards given to women
  • WING Plenary Session Speaker
  • Expo exhibitor
  • Workshop and Awards ceremony
  • Sexual Harassment Policy implementation by GRC

The chapter is working toward these goals through targeted recruitment of women in the industry to run for Board seats, suggest women for panel participation, encouraging women to author technical papers, chair technical sessions, and nominate women for industry awards.

The WING US chapter created the WING Core Calues, which were adopted by the global organization in 2017. The WING annual core value awards honor men and women who embody these values of Courageous, Empowering, Open and Caring. Nominations typically open in May of each year and are awarded at the GRC Annual Meeting.

In 2020, the US WING Chapter became a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, registered in California.

Initiatives include establishment of a mentorship program, establishment of a volunteer program to increase the participation of our membership, increasing communication with the membership through social media and a regular newsletter.
